Provexa Plastics AB
Surface Treatment on Plastic in Anderstorp Since 1988
The site specializes in applying metallic coatings to plastic components, primarily through nickel plating and chrome plating. These processes are widely used in the automotive industry to create decorative and functional surfaces with high durability and corrosion resistance.
In 2023, significant investments were made to improve energy efficiency and increase production capacity. Measures such as additional roof insulation, installation of rapid doors, and a transition from gas heating to geothermal energy have helped cut energy costs in half.
Additionally, the facility is planning a transition from hexavalent chromium to more environmentally friendly alternatives, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability.
As part of the Provexa Group, the Anderstorp facility provides customers with access to advanced laboratory services and expertise in surface treatment, enabling customized solutions that meet specific industry needs.

Custom solutions
If your component requires electrical conductivity, we offer top-layer plating with tin, silver, or gold (genuine gold, hard or soft gold depending on the requirements).
Can’t find the surface treatment you’re looking for?
Through our partners, we can offer a wide range of surface treatments for plastic.
How does plating on plastic work?
Below are all the steps involved in chrome plating plastic products. Of course, plastic products can also be coated with other metals. Please contact us if you would like to know more.

Injection molded or 3D-printed plastic

Etching gently modifies the plastic surface, creating conditions for metal adhesion

Activating the plastic surface so metal can attach evenly

The accelerator removes unwanted residues

Electroless nickel creates an even, conductive metal layer

Immersion copper provides a copper deposit with exceptional adhesion

Acid copper applies a metal layer that levels the surface and improves durability

This nickel layer provides a strong and reliable foundation for multilayer nickel plating

* Option 1 - Bright nickel adds a shiny, uniform metal layer

* Option 2 - provides a satin, bright to full matte finish

Optional - MPS-nickel improves corrosion protection

Trivalent chromium adds a bright finish with excellent corrosion and wear resistance

Cr3 performs in tough environments
In the past, Cr6 was used for its high corrosion resistance and aesthetic finish, but technology has advanced.
Today, Cr3 meets the toughest tests and exceeds the industry’s high standards for both durability and longevity.
Cr3+ vs Cr6+
However, thanks to our chemical suppliers, MacDermid Enthone Industrial Solutions and Atotech an MKS Brand, Cr3 has now proven to be a fully viable alternative.
This has enabled our investment in Cr3 – a more sustainable surface treatment.
