Fasteners – Electrolytic Coatings on Fasteners. This standard specifies requirements for steel fasteners with electrolytic coatings and coating systems, as well as dimensional properties for fasteners made of copper or copper alloys. It provides guidelines for minimizing the risk of hydrogen embrittlement and focuses on fasteners with zinc, zinc-alloy, and cadmium coatings for corrosion protection and other functions. The coatings may include conversion coatings, sealants, topcoats, and lubricants. The document applies to various fasteners, such as bolts, screws, nuts, washers, and rivets. For other electrolytic coatings like tin, copper, silver, and nickel, only dimensional requirements for ISO metric threads are included. The requirements in this document take precedence over other documents on electrolytic plating. It does not specify requirements for weldability or paintability.
